EBBP September: Twisted Carnival

COME ONE AND COME ALL!! …. under the Big Top of the EAST BAY, it is FRIDAY THE 13th and we want to show the community a Caaarnivaaaal!!!

ImageThere are so many more wonders than you can imagine and we share some of the best places you have probably never been to, and in good ole #eastbaybikeparty fashion we are going to take the most twisted route.

… oh, its going to be lovely to see strange lands at home… oh.. and games, so come right in… step this way, kind pedaler.. we have many of you in here and we would many games to play … perhaps.. kind sir would enjoy a game of ulockshoes? ahh.. and sir.. yes.. and  ma’am and ma’am and sir,  … yes.. we have a couple discs…but at night… they twist with brilliant light.. oh what fun… . oh.. we have many fun things around us, with us, in you, and we are a fanciful bunch of merrimakers and smile creators, so please.. yes.. right this way, that’s the dance tent and its always booming … shaking. pulsing, writhing and twisting about … the East Bay Bike Party tent is always off the hook!

We are all jugglers of wonderful tales of East Bay love so let’s show the rest of the community what a Twisted Carvinal of bikes looks like! All you dwellers of the thirteenth, the darkers, the shadowy smile makers, freddies, jugglers, clowns, freaks, geeks, fortune tellers, tight ropers, gamers, players, fun havers, dancers, spinners, … the spirited and curious seekers we want you……to .. BIKE PARTYYYYYYY!

LOCK YOUR BIKES UP.  Bikes get stolen.

LIGHTS – Two lights every day keeps you safe and at the very least, the cops away.

LAYERS – This is the EAST BAY and our weather is crazy, like us.

-INVITE WISELY: If you’re inviting friends, make sure that they think that safety is sexy & know the Bike Party code.

-PICK UP YOUR TRASH: This one’s simple – if you brought it in or ate/drank it, you pack out the can/wrapper/trash with you.

-VOLUNTEER: Volunteer to take a corner and lead the Bike Party through a turn. Make new friends and help make Bike Party awesome.

-COME PREPARED: This is an unsupported ride, so bring whatever you’d bring if you went on a long solo ride. A patch kit, tools, lights, snacks & layers are a good start.

-KNOW THE CODE: If you come out this Friday, this is what the people around you will expect. And you’ll make more friends if you ride safely. Making friends and meeting new people is what this ride is about, after all:
Stay Right
Stop At Lights
Ride Straight
Don’t Hate
Pack Your Trash
Don’t Get Smashed

As always, East Bay Bike Party is the second Friday of every month, meet at 7:30, roll at 8pm. That means this months Bike Party will be on Friday the 13th! Meet at Coliseum BART station. ending near Union Point Park in Oakland.

See you Friday! BIKE PARRRTTYYYY!!!

Anyone know how long the ride was last night distance wise?

  2. sand says:

where’s a map? I would love to join the ride, but no way am I riding all the way to east oakland during rush hour by myself, and BART is obviously not an option

  3. Grapes says:

Are there a lot of hills on this ride?

  4. psychanaut says:

How have have previous rides from or around Coliseum gone? I’m a little hesitant to join since this is in the heart of some of the most dangerous areas in the whole Bay.

    • No Juan says:

safety in NUMBERS RULE #4 Don’t Hate…….. it is only a 1/2hr then were gone

The only thing dangerous about this ride was the route that caused us to repeatedly cross roads with heavy traffic (that are well-known for this too!) and unprotected left turns. East Oakland is full of good people and having worked in this area for years I was excited to spend time here for bike party. However, had I known how poorly planned this route was in terms of road choice/conditions for safe riding, I would have skipped it. Would have loved for this party to have taken a route that didn’t include riding a bike down 98th or crossing train tracks at backed up areas 3 times (seriously did anyone test ride this? And if so, what were you thinking? We all have to be our own safe riders but for me safety starts with the road conditions on the route I plan.). Don’t hate on East Oakland, and my advice is to worry more about logistical route choices than blanket generalizations about dangerous parts of Oakland.

psychanaut, even though they are meeting around the Coliseum they will most likely take the route with the least amount of traffic which would mean over 66th ave bridge towards the water. You will be safe and sound…

    • jason walden says:

ridden through the area twice, once to cross the high street bridge. its safe. the locals where just checking out the seen, like WTF. we had a blast.

    • As an Elmhurst Park local this hurts. Don’t fear the Coliseum! Most of us are just trying to live our lives.

    • bobbie says:

the only thing you have to fear is the condition of the roads.
