DON’T PANIC! And remember to bring lights, locks, and layers. EBBP is a 100% volunteer led, self-supported ride, so bring everything you need for a ~15 mile bike ride.
THE ANSWER TO BIKE PARTY BIKE PARTY IS…42! But the answer to a safe and healthy ride for all is our six simple ride rules: *STAY TO THE RIGHT (let cars pass on the left hand side) *STOP AT LIGHTS (Do NOT cork intersections, let traffic flow, volunteers are posted at turns/corners for the whole ride to get through). *RIDE STRAIGHT (predictably, don’t swerve) *DON’T HATE (be a good person; roll past conflict) *PACK YOUR TRASH (don’t litter in this beautiful universe of ours!) *DON’T GET SMASHED (Stay alert and in control for your and others’ safety).
When in doubt… again don’t panic! and bring a towel!!!!!!!!!!! AND BIKE PARTY!!!!!!!!!!
Don your furriest costume or cosplay your favorite character!!!! Let your fun flag fly as we roll from Richmond to Berkeley for a ridiculous and rambunctious Bike Party Ride. Bike Party is 100% volunteer led and a self supported ride. Bring everything you need to ride ~15 miles- snacks, water, libations, and bike tools.
REMEMBER: LIGHTS, LOCKS, LAYERS!!!
Yes we all know days of rain and the atMoSpHeRiC rIvEr is here. But EBBP sticks to it’s long held policy that WE RIDE RAIN OR SHINE !!! And beyond that, it looks like there might even be a break in the weather during bike party!??!! Keep up your clear skies dances, they’re working ๐ if you come out to ride please be safe and warm with lights and layers. A rain poncho or even a trash bag will help — get a clear one to show off the outfits!!!
And please follow our six simple rules to keep everyone rolling together safely: *Stay to the Right (let cars pass on the left) *Stop at Lights (sometimes intersections get corked by riders, please use your best judgement and default to stopping at the light). *Ride Straight and predictably *Don’t hate / roll past conflict *PACK YOUR TRASH! Not all stops will have trash cans. If you brought it with you, you can take it home with you! *DON’T GET SMASHED! Be safe and aware of your surroundings and your own abilities.
Roll Out Crew reached out and is hosting a ride in solidarity with the victims of the attacks. The goal of the ride is to show support and unite as one bike community. The ride is this Sunday (Feb 19) at West Oakland BART, meeting at 11am and departing at 1pm.
This is different from regular bike party rides. Truckie of ROC will be escorting the rear of the ride with his truck for safety and to help any bikes that break down, and will also have water and snacks. ROC regularly hosts bike events and rides for the Oakland community. There is a planned route with frequent, short stops:
Riders may cork intersections to keep the ride safe together as a single group.
As many of you have already heard, there were multiple instances of a group of people using stolen cars to attack Bike Party attendees and other people biking in the East Bay. Members of our community were intentionally doored at speed while they rode their bikes peacefully. The victims suffered varying degrees of injury, and two people were seriously injured and had to be taken to the hospital.
Make no mistake โ these were violent, targeted attacks with cars used as literal weapons. Last night was another frightening reminder that local governments must take immediate action to make the streets safe for everyone.
We can say so much about the emotions going through our hearts right now but our largest concern are the victims. Weโll do everything we can to support them as they recover from the physical and emotional trauma inflicted on them.
Itโs more important than ever that we foster the things that make our community strong. Letโs take care of each other. Letโs stay close and connected. Letโs turn the anger and sadness weโre feeling right now into a force for change so we can make sure this never happens again.
For more information on the attacks see the Oaklandside article here. We are also maintaining this summary document. Please note the content is upsetting. If you have any more information email ebbikeparty@gmail.com and contact the police as well.
