East Bay Bike Party: 3rd Anniversary Ride!

Can I get a BIKE PARTY!?Image

Hello all you Bike Party Peeps!

This month we are starting at Richmond BART station and making our way back to Oakland, or more specifically Lake Merritt. As always, meet at 7:30pm, roll at 8! Every second Friday of the month – so May 10th! The ride this month is 16 miles, so be prepared to ride. Water bottles, lights, snacks, locks, layers for warmth & helmets  are highly recommended items to bring to any Bike Party.

rubik's+cubeThis month’s ride theme is “Rubik’s Cube Rave!” Your assignment is to wear multiple colors — of the rubik’s cube variety (i.e., red, orange, yellow, green blue, white) — and then exchange clothing with other EBBPers so that, by the end of the night, you’re wearing a single color. Plan accordingly! And don’t forget to practice safe clothing exchanges.

Route sheets will be handed out at the start point.

Bike lock, lights, and a helmet, are highly recommended.

Bike Party is ENTIRELY volunteer organized. Help out and make this ride as awesome as it can be. We need volunteers to take corners. Volunteer roll call!
Volunteers at intersections should call out “clear, rolling!” or “stop, car!”
The rear sweep of the ride is the rider with the magic broom. She will have turn sheets if you get stuck and fall off the ride but cannot provide assistance with mechanicals.

Let’s please remember the Bike Party rules and respect them! This is a fun community ride & we want to keep it that way. If you see something – say something. The better we behave, the cooler the spots we get to go!

How We Ride:
– Stop at Lights
– Stay to the Right
– Pack your Trash
– Don’t get Smashed
– Ride Straight
– Don’t Hate!
– When in doubt, BIKE PARTY!

See you all Friday!!

Dearest Bike Party

Image

Did you know that EBBP is entirely volunteer organized? As those volunteers, we would like to talk to you about what happened on the April ride, and how we feel that a few bad apples are spoiling the bunch. In April, we put together a fundraiser for the East Bay Bicycle Coalition, and Trumer Pils donated their space, time, resources, and beer toward this fundraiser. We thought it would be awesome, and it was, until we were informed that someone sprayed graffiti all over the port-a-potties, behind the food trucks, all over the brewery, and then many people left the space a disaster with beer cans and refuse everywhere.

This is unacceptable. We do not volunteer our time and efforts so that a few ingrates can spoil the event for everyone. We, at our meeting, discussed many options to counteract this problem, and among those options were cancelling bike party, leading the ride over grizzly peak, and having cover charges for after parties. What we settled on fits with our values: We are going to bring more awesome, and YOU are going to help. At the bottom of this letter this is a link to Indiegogo where you may donate to repair the damage to the brewery, so that it does not have to come out of the EBBC coffers. If you love bike party, put your money where your mouth is, and donate.

At next month’s ride, when you come, BRING THE AWESOME, and CALL OUT ASSHOLES. This is YOUR community too! This is what Bike Party thinks is awesome:

– Stop at Lights: abide by traffic lights. This is NOT Critical Mass.
– Stay to the Right: Don’t be a noob and ride into oncoming traffic.
– Pack your Trash: Leave no trace. No slobs!
– Don’t get Smashed: Save face.
– Ride Straight: Hold your line, tricks are for pros.
– Don’t Hate: respect your fellow man and woman.
– When in doubt, BIKE PARTY!

East Bay Bike Party April Theme Announcement!

Image

It’s California. It’s 1958 and love is in the air! Love with each other, our bicycles, and the community we are forming is great reason to celebrate dancing and a rockabilly attitude. Danny, Sandy and the Greasers embodied many of the traits we all share – rebellion, independence, the willingness to try new things and want to be a part of a greater community! Break out the vests, the patches, the white suites, the pink and yellow dresses … you won’t strike out tonight with those bowling shoes!

El Arbol, the infamous part tree, part bike, part sound stage will be joining us from Rock the Bike and we are definitely going to be rolling in style as Fossil Fool takes us all around the Grease Bay. It’s an ending you will not want to miss!

“You Jims and Sals are my best pals, and to look your best for the big contest, just be yourself and have a ball, that’s what it’s all about after all! Just remember, it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, it’s what you do with your dancin’ shoes.“ – Vince Fontaine

BIKE PARTYYYYYY! Every 2nd Friday, meet at 7:30, roll at 8pm

March EBBP Theme!!

Image
GREEN is everywhere and this month, Bike Party, wants you to GO GREEN and celebrate this fabulous color with us!

The costume spectrum is endless, so let you minds wander and have fun with it!

Let’s make this a GREENtastic bike party!

You could be a character like The Leprechaun from those terrible horror movies in the 90s, the Green Lantern, The Hulk.. four friends could be The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or question our sanity as The Riddler.

GREEN is alive in the animal kingdom! Turtles, frogs, and toads, oh my.. snakes are GREEN and so are centipedes, spiders, lizards, and fish… personally, I’ll be praying to see a mantis costume!

There are so many shades of GREEN you could go wild and try to wear them all at once, or dazzle us showing up in GREEN paint from head to toe.

So go out and GREEN lights to adorn your bike with and lets make everyone else that sees us GREEN WITH ENVY as they watch us roll by, hootin’ and hollerin’ and have a greend ol time :)

BIIIIIIIIIIKE PAAAAAAAAARTY!

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

-INVITE WISELY: If you’re inviting friends, make sure that they think that safety is sexy, know the Bike Party code, and arrive at the start of the ride sober

-PICK UP YOUR TRASH: This one’s simple – if you brought it in or ate/drank it, you pack out the can/wrapper/trash with you.

-VOLUNTEER: Volunteer to take a corner and lead the Bike Party through a turn.

-COME PREPARED: This is an unsupported ride, so bring whatever you’d bring if you went on a long solo ride. A patch kit and a bike tool are a good start. If you’re with friends, make sure that at least one of them has things you might need (including a wrench, if you ride a fixie)

-KNOW THE CODE: If you come out this Friday, this is what the people around you will expect. And you’ll make more friends if you ride safely. Making friends and meeting new people is what this ride is about, after all:

Stay Right
Stop At Lights (while this is a green party, please STOP at RED)
Ride Straight
Don’t Hate
Pack Your Trash
Don’t Get Smashed

See you Friday, you sexy green machine! BIKE PARTY!!!
